Director fined for neglecting Legionella risk
The managing director of a Midlands based company First Metal Finishers Ltd failed to put in place a management system to control legionella, despite receiving warnings from water-treatment contractors.

Bradley Environmental open their new Chester office
Bradley Environmental have continued to invest despite the current economic environment by opening a new office in Chester. This has happened as a direct result of a dramatic increase in new private and public sector contracts and the addition of new clients in the Cheshire and North West area.
Tories to curb the power of HSE Inspectors
The Tories have suggested that a future Conservative government would curb the powers of intrusive Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors and allow firms to arrange their own, externally-audited inspections. The Conservative Party is recommending an audit system modelled on the financial sector would be a better alternative.
Britain is one of the safest places to work in the EU.
The HSE is claiming that Britain is one of the safest places to work in the EU following the release of statistics on the number of people killed, injured, or made ill at work last year. The figures for April 2008 to March 2009 confirm the provisional total of work-related deaths released in June as 180 – the lowest ever recorded – but also reveal a reduction of 7000 in the number of serious and over three-day injuries, and a 13-percent drop in working days lost to injury and ill health, compared with the previous year’s figures
Football club ignored Improvement Notice
Blackpool Football Club has been fined £8000 to failing to comply with an Improvement Notice.
In February 2009, environmental Health Officers (EHO’s) from Blackpool Council carried out a routine safety inspection at the football club’s Bloomfield Road stadium. The council discovered the club had failed to carry out risk assessments or create a written health and safety policy, to cover non-match days.
